## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT TOOK OFF FROM A PRIVATE FIELD AND HAD GOTTEN TO AN ALTITUDE OF APPROXIMATELY 200FT. HE MADE A TURN TO THE LEFT TO HEAD BACK TO THE AIRPORT AND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ROLL RIGHT TO LEVEL OFF, HE NOTICED HIS CONTROLS WERE HEAVIER THAN NORMAL. HE ATTEMPTED TO GET THE AIRCRAFT TO ROLL RIGHT, DURING THIS TIME HE REALIZED THAT HE WAS LOSING ALTITUDE AND WAS GOING TO GO INTO SOME TREES. AT THIS TIME HE IMPACTED THE TRESS AND THE AIRCRAFT ENDED UP HITTING NOSE DOWN WITH THE AIRCRAFT IN A VERTICAL POSITION AMONGST THE TREES. HE REALIZED DURING EGRESS OF THE WRECKAGE THAT THE ENGINE WAS NOT RUNNING. A WITNESS THAT SAW THE AIRCRAFT TAKE OFF AND WATCHED THE FLIGHT STATED THAT THE ENGINE HAD STOPPED RUNNING JUST PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA16LA247](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA16LA247), Jul 9, 2016: Mormile Francis W Aventura II (N932MC), West Pittsfield, ME, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airplane control after a total loss of engine power due to carburetor icing, which accumulated because the carburetor heat was not functioning.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
