## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT DEPARTED ON A PART 91 FLIGHT FROM ARLINGTON, WA (KAWO) TO LANGLEY, WA (W10). UPON ARRIVAL AT W10 HE FELT THE WINDS WERE LIGHT AND ELECTED TO MAKE A DOWNWIND APPROACH TO AVOID A STEEPER APRROACH THAT WOULD BE NECCESARY DUE TO THE HIGH TREES AT THE OPPOSITE END OF THE RUNWAY.

HE KNEW THAT HE WAS HIGH ON THE FINAL APPROACH BUT ELECTED TO CONTINUE THE LANDING AND TOUCHED DOWN WELL DOWN THE RUNWAY AND COULD NOT STOP THE AIRCRAFT IN THE DISTANCE REMAINING. THE AIRCRAFT WENT OFF THE END OF THE RUNWAY AND RAN INTO AN EMBANKMENT AND FLIPPED UPSIDE DOWN. PILOT SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. NO POST CRASH FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA382](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA382), Jul 16, 2016: Gonzalez Manuel A RV 7 (N228MG), Langley, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's decision to land with a tailwind, which resulted in, landing long, a runway overrun, and impact with a berm and nose over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
