## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AFTER CONTACTING EGLIN APPROACH CONTROL AND OBTAINING AN IFR CLEARANCE, THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED RUNWAY 14 AT KDTS IN VFR CONDITIONS. THE AIRCRAFT CLIMBED TO APPROXIMATELY 800 FEET AND WAS LAST SEEN BY WITNESSES TO BE FLYING SOUTHBOUND OVER THE WATER WHEN IT BANKED TO THE RIGHT. MOMENTS LATER THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE WATER IN A RIGHT WING AND NOSE LOW ATTITUDE. THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL RADIO CONTACT WITH EGLIN ATC AFTER RECEIVING AN IFR CLEARANCE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA16FA279](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA16FA279), Aug 3, 2016: Cessna 414 (N2735A), Destin, FL, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's loss of control due to spatial disorientation shortly after takeoff, while maneuvering over water during dark night conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
