## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AUGUST 4TH, 2016, 19:45PM EASTERN TIME, THE PILOT, ALONG WITH ONE PASSENGER, TOOK OFF FROM KGEO ON RUNWAY 18 HEADING SOUTH BOUND ON A LOCAL FLIGHT. APPROXIMATELY, 15 MINUTES INTO THE FLIGHT, AROUND THE RUSSELLVILLE OHIO AREA, THE PILOT HEARD AND FELT A LOUD BANG FROM UNDER THE ENGINE COVERING (COWLING). HE TRIED TO MAINTAIN ALTITUDE WHILE TURNING BACK TO KGEO. AFTER 5-10 SECONDS, THE AIRCRAFT WAS NO LONGER PRODUCING POWER. HE THEN PICKED THE CLOSEST, SAFEST FIELD TO LAND. AT 20:04 PM, HE LANDED IN SOY BEAN FIELD. WHEN LANDING, HIS NOSEWHEEL STRUCK AN UNSEEN DRAINAGE DITCH IN THE FIELD WHICH CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO FLIP ON ITS TOP.
