## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT HAD TROUBLE FINDING AIRPORT. WHEN THE PILOT SAW THE AIRPORT THE PILOT COMMENCED WITH A LANDING AT A HIGHER THAN NORMAL AIRSPEED. PILOT SLIPPED THE AIRCRAFT TO BLEED OFF SPEED AND LANDED 1/2 TO 3/4 OF THE WAY DOWN THE RUNWAY. A GO AROUND WAS NOT PERFORMED BECAUSE THE PILOT THOUGHT THE AIRCRAFT WOULD CONTACT TREES NEAR THE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT WAS STEERED ACROSS GRASS AND ONTO A ROAD TO AVOID GOING OVER A STEEP CLIFF. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST ON A ROAD WITH A COLLAPSED RIGHT LANDING GEAR, BENT PROPELLER, BENT FIRE WALL BRACE AND THE RIGHT WING TIP UNDER A GUARD RAIL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA427](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA427), Aug 11, 2016: Piper PA28 (N2259Q), Hamburg, NY, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to perform a go-around, which resulted in a landing area overshoot, a runway overrun, a landing gear collapse, and a collision with a guard rail.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
