## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON AUGUST 16 @ APPROXIMATELY 1200 HRS, WHILE RETURNING FROM MCARTHUR FLATS, WITH NO PASSENGER, PILOT LANDED ON THE BEACH NEAR STARISKI RIVER OUTLET.

THE WEATHER WAS PARTLY CLOUDY WITH NO SIGNIFICANT WIND. THE BEACH WAS SMOOTH. PILOT MADE A GOOD 3 POINT LANDING, AIRCRAFT STRUCK A DRIFTWOOD TREE ON THE BEACH A WITH THE LEFT WING. PILOT HAD SEEN THE TREE BUT A BRANCH FROM THE TREE WASN?T APPARENT. IT CAUGHT THE LEFT WING AND SPUN THE PLANE AROUND (GROUND LOOP). THERE WAS NO MALFUNCTION OF THE AIRCRAFT EQUIPMENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA436](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA436), Aug 16, 2016: Piper PA18 (N8097N), Anchor Point, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain clearance from obstacles while landing on a coastal beach.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
