## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON AUGUST 17, 2016 AT APPROXIMATELY 1155 UTC, AN EXPERIMENTAL, AMATEUR-BUILT AIRCRAFT, BUILDER ANDERSON CHRISTOPHER W, MODEL ANDERSON-SONEX (N809SX), SERIAL# 809, WAS ON CLIMB OUT WHEN HE NOTICED THE LEFT SIDE OF THE CANOPY HAD OPENED UP APPROXIMATELY 2 INCHES. HE WAS ATTEMPTING TO PULL THE CANOPY DOWN TO LOCK IT, WHEN HE DECIDED TO LAND INSTEAD. WHEN HE PULLED POWER BACK, THE AIRCRAFT PITCHED DOWN AND HIT NOSE LANDING GEAR FIRST. THE FLIGHT WAS CONDUCTED AS A PERSONAL FLIGHT UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF 14 CFR PART 91 WITH ONLY THE PILOT ONBOARD. VISUAL WEATHER CONDITIONS PREVAILED AT KTIX AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THE AIRCRAFT WAS PILOTED BY ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, CERTIFICATE NUMBER ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^. THE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED AND THE AIRCRAFT INCURRED MINOR DAMAGE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
