## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON AUGUST 17, 2016, AT 1300 CDT, A CESSNA 162 SKYCATCHER, AIRCRAFT REGISTRATION NUMBER N6003P, REGISTERED TO THE PRIVATE OWNER, EXPERIENCED AN UN-COMMANDED OPENING OF THE PILOT DOOR. THE DOOR CRACKED IN HALF AND FOLDED BACK AGAINST THE FUSELAGE DURING CRUISE FLIGHT NEAR MATHIS FIELD AT SAN ANGELO, TX. THE AIRCRAFT WAS BEING OPERATED ON AN INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT BY SKYLINE AVIATION. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AT THE TIME, AND NO FLIGHT PLAN WAS FILED. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE, AND THE STUDENT PILOT AND FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR SUSTAINED NO INJURIES. THE FLIGHT ORIGINATED FROM MATHIS FIELD IN SAN ANGELO, TX ON AUGUST 17, 2016 AT 1445 CDT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
