## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

A STUDENT PILOT WAS TRAINING FOR FLIGHT CONTROLS OF A TAIL WHEEL TYPE AIRCRAFT. THE FLIGHT WAS UNDER THE OPERATIONAL CONTROL OF THE LISTED PILOT.

DURING A TRAINING FLIGHT LANDING THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED OUT OF CONTROL AND CRASHED/LANDED AT A SIDEWAYS ANGLE AT KLMT.

OBSERVABLE DAMAGE:

THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT WING SPAR AND RIGHT STABILIZER, THE FUSELAGE HAS CRINKLES ON THE LEFT SIDE IN FRONT OF THE LEFT LANDING GEAR (SUSPECT TORSION PULL FROM ENGINE MOVEMENT - AND SEPARATION OF THE FIREWALL), THE RIGHT WHEEL/TIRE ASSEMBLY WAS DISLODGED AND THE LANDING LEG WAS BENT INWARDS.

THERE WERE SEVERAL SCRAPS IN THE RUNWAY FROM THE LANDING GEAR LEG AFTER THE WHEEL DISLODGED.

THE SCRAPS WERE APPROXIMATELY 30-40 FEET LONG.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA443](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA443), Aug 19, 2016: Cessna A185 (N185SC), Klamath Falls, OR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper landing flare, which resulted in the airplane porpoising and the subsequent loss of directional control.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
