## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT DEPARTED RUNWAY 22 AT ST SIMONS MCKINNON AIRPORT AND HAD A STANDARD RATE OF CLIMB AT 90KTS AND CLIMBED TO APPROXIMATELY 150 AND THE ENGINE STOPPED. PROPELLER CONTINUED TO WINDMILL AND CLEAR LIQUID CONTINUALLY SPRAYING FROM THE UPPER COWLING ONTO THE WINDSHIELD. THE PILOT ASSUMED IT TO BE FUEL. THE PILOT IMMEDIATELY ATTEMPTED TO LAND BACK ON RUNWAYY22 AND ADDED FULL FLAPS. THE PILOT GOT THE AIRCRAFT BACK ON RUNWAY 22 AND IMMEDIATELY APPLIED BRAKES HEAVILY. THE AIRCRAFT WAS APPROACHING THE END OF THE RUNWAY AND THE PILOT SAW CARS AND PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC AHEAD SO APPLIED LEFT BRAKE TO AVOID THE TRAFFIC. CONSISTENT BRAKING AND SKIDDING CONTINUED UNTIL THE AIRCRAFT HIT THE PERIMETER FENCE IN THE SOUTH WEST CORNER AND THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST IN THE DITCH. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL STRUCTURAL DAMAGE AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE PILOT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA497](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA497), Aug 22, 2016: Cirrus Design SR20 (N204AK), Brunswick, GA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The total loss of engine power during takeoff due to a loose B-nut on the fuel flow divider input fuel line fitting, which resulted in a fuel leak and fuel starvation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
