## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOTS OF N63PL WERE ON A CROSS-COUNTRY FLIGHT FROM CREVE COEUR, MO (1H0) TO MEXICO MEMORIAL, MO (MYJ) AND BACK TO CREVE COEUR TO PRACTICE INSTRUMENT APPROACHES. WHEN THEY ARRIVED BACK AT CREVE COEUR THEY PERFORMED A VOR-A APPROACH WITH A COUPLE OF STOP AND GOES. PILOT STATED THEY DID A GUMPS CHECKLIST BUT DID NOT USE THE FORMAL CHECKLIST. ON THE LAST TAKEOFF THE ENGINE LOST POWER SHORTLY AFTER 200FT AGL AND EVENTUALLY QUIT. PILOT LANDED ON HIGHWAY WITHOUT INCIDENT.

RECOMMEND REMEDIAL TRAINING IN THE AREAS OF FUEL PLANNING AND FUEL MANAGEMENT. ALSO, TRAINING ON THE FUEL SYSTEM IN THE PIPER.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
