## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING TAKE-OFF, THE PILOT IN COMMAND REPORTED THAT THE ENGINE BEGAN SPITTING, SPUTTERING THEN STOP OPERATING. HE RETURNED THE AIRCRAFT BACK TO THE AIRPORT BUT WAS UNABLE TO RESTORE POWER. HE MANEUVERED THE AIRPLANE FOR A LANDING ON THE RUNWAY. HOWEVER, THE AIRCRAFT HIT THE RUNWAY HARD AN SKID ACROSS THE FIELD BETWEEN THE RUNWAY AND TAXIWAY AND FINALLY CAME TO REST ON THE TAXIWAY. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE TO FIBERGLASS FUSELAGE STRUCTURE, JUST AFT OF THE LEFT MAIN LANDIN GEAR. THE PILOT IN COMMAND SUSTAINED SERIOUS BACK INJURY REQUIRING IMMEDIATE HOSPITALIZATION FOR MORE THEN 48 HOURS. THE PASSENGER OR CO-PILOT WAS ALSO TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL; HOWEVER, HIS INJURIES WERE LESS SERIOUS, HE WAS TREATED AND RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL THE SAME DAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA16LA299](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA16LA299), Aug 23, 2016: Progressive Aerodyne Searey (N801SR), Sebring, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: A disconnected ground wire during initial climb, which degraded the fuel boost pumps’ performance and resulted in a total loss of engine power due to fuel starvation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
