## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT LANDED ON OLD MINING STRIP THAT HAD BEEN WASHED OUT BY CREEK. RUTTED AND FILLED WITH SOFT SAND SPOTS AND HOLES. AS THE PILOT WAS TAXIING TO REPOSITION AIRCRAFT, RIGHT TIRE FELL INTO HOLE AND RIGHT WING CONTACTED GROUND. FORWARD SPAR BUCKLED AND SOME RIBS WERE DAMAGED AS WELL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA458](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA458), Aug 26, 2016: Piper PA18 (N9575D), Central, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's decision to taxi on unsuitable terrain after landing, which resulted in an encounter with a washed out ditch.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
