## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 8/27/2016 AT 1735 AKDT, A PIPER ARROW PA-28R-200 N3091T, OWNED AND OPERATED BY LAND AND SEA AVIATION, A PART 61 FLIGHT SCHOOL LOCATED AT MERRILL FIELD IN ANCHORAGE, AK, WAS ON AN INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT IN A TRAINING AREA LOCATED IN THE MATANUSKA VALLEY.

AS THE FLIGHT WAS CONDUCTING GROUND REFERENCE MANEUVERS AT APPROXIMATELY 900' AGL, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STARTED VIBRATING AND RATTLEING. THE CFI AND STUDENT NOTICED A DROP IN RPM, AND INDICATED THAT THE MANIFOLD PRESSURE GAGE WAS FLUCTUATING ERRATICALLY. AFTER TROUBLESHOOTING, AND NOT ABLE TO CORRECT THE SITUATION, THE CFI DECIDED TO EXECUTE A PRECAUTIONARY LANDING. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED UNDER POWER IN A FIELD WITH NO DAMAGE OR INJURIES REPORTED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
