ON SEPTEMBER 2, 2016 AT 3:30 PM A SKYKITS SAVANNAH, N747MK AN AMPHIBIOUS LIGHT SPORT AIRPLANE DEPARTED CRANDON AIRPORT WITH TWO PERSONS ON BOARD. AFTER DEPARTURE THE PILOT NEGLECTED TO RAISE THE WHEELS INSTALLED ON THE FLOATS. AFTER A SHORT FLIGHT THEY ATTEMPTED TO TOUCH DOWN ON LAKE MENTONGA. DUE TO THE IMPROPERLY CONFIGURED UNDERCARRIAGE AND UPON CONTACT WITH LAKE THE AIRCRAFT IMMEDIATELY WENT NOSE DOWN INTO THE WATER AND CAME TO REST IN THAT CONDITION. BOTH PERSONS ON BOARD WERE UNIJURED AND RESUCED BY NEARBY BOATERS. THE PLANE RECEIVED ONLY MINOR DAMAGE AS A RESULT OF THE INDICENT BUT WAS FURTHER DAMAGED DURING REMOVAL THE LAKE. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
