## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT STATED HE HAD DEPARTED SGS APPROXIMATELY 40 MINUTES PRIOR TO EXPERIENCING ENGINE ROUGHNESS AND APPARENT LOSS OF POWER. THE ENGINE HAD BEEN RECENTLY OVERHAULED AND THIS FLIGHT WAS FOR MONITORING AND RECORDING ENGINE PARAMETERS. PILOT STATED THAT THE LAST NOTED ENTRY WAS APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES INTO THE FLIGHT AND ALL PARAMETERS APPEARED NORMAL. HE STATED THAT THE ENGINE STARTED TO RUN ROUGH AND BACKFIRE A LOT. A WITNESS THAT HEARD THE AIRCRAFT STATED THAT THE ENGINE SOUNDED VERY ROUGH AND WAS BACKFIRING REPEATEDLY SHORTLY BEFORE THE ACCIDENT. HE WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN ALTITUDE WITH THE AVAILABLE ENGINE POWER. PILOT STATED THAT HE PICKED OUT WHAT APPEARED TO BE A SUITABLE FIELD TO LAND IN. THE PILOT LANDED THE AIRCRAFT AND AFTER APPROXIMATELY 825 FEET, THE AIRCRAFT HIT A ROUGH AREA AND NOSED OVER ONTO IT'S BACK.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN16LA369](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN16LA369), Sep 14, 2016: Stinson V77 (N715FB), Jordan, MN, substantial damage. Probable cause: A partial loss of engine power due to carburetor icing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
