## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON SEPTEMBER 16TH, AT APPROXIMATELY 636 PM LOCAL, N4002T DEPARTED KSVH STATESVILLE DIRECT TO 5W5 FUQUA VARINA. THE FLIGHT WAS TO TAKE ABOUT 1 HOUR 14 MINUTES. THE PILOT OBTAINED FLIGHT FOLLOWING AND WITH A HEADWIND, ARRIVED AT 5W5 AT APPROXIMATELY 750 PM, CROSSED OVER MIDFIELD, ENTERED THE DOWNWIND PATTERN FOR RUNWAY 16. N4002T COMPLETED A GO AROUND TO CHECK OUT THE FIELD AND NOTICED THE RUNWAY WAS NOT IN GREAT CONDITION BUT DECIDED TO LAND EVEN THOUGH IT WAS GETTING DARK AND THERE WAS NO RUNWAY LIGHTING. AFTER TOUCHDOWN THE LEFT WHEEL ENTERED THE ROUGH GRASS ON THE APRON WHICH PULLED IT FURTHER OFF THE RUNWAY. ABOUT 500 FEET FROM THE TOUCHDOWN POINT, THE LEFT WING STRUCK A SAPLING TREE AND SWUNG THE PLANE LEFT WHERE IT LANDED IN THE TREE LINE OF SMALL PINES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA494](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA494), Sep 16, 2016: Beech B23 (N4002T), Raleigh, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll, which resulted in a runway excursion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
