AIRCRAFT WAS ENROUTE FROM NORWALK, OHIO (5A1) TO CARROLLTON COUNTY AIRPORT (TSO) WHEN AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN ENGINE FAILURE DURING CRUISE FLIGHT AT 3500 MSL. THE PILOT STATED THE ENGINE JUST QUIT WITH NO PRIOR WARNING OR INDICATIONS. THE PROPELLER CONTINUED TO WINDMILL AS RESTART WAS ATTEMPTED. WHEN IT WAS APPARENT THAT ENGINE WASNT GOING TO START, THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO LAND THE AIRCRAFT IN A SOYBEAN FIELD 3.5 MILES NW OF WAYNE COUNTY AIRPORT (BJJ) WOOSTER, OHIO. THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPED OVER ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER TOUCHDOWN. THE PILOT AND PASSENGER WERE ABLE TO ESCAPE FROM THE AIRCRAFT WITH MINOR INJURIES.
