## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT WAS OUT WITH A FRIEND ON A PERSONAL FLIGHT. THEY HAD STOPPED AT OTHER AIRPORTS PRIOR TO LANDING IN TANGIER ISLAND (KTGI). ON HIS FIRST ATTEMPT HE STRUGGLED DURING THE APPROACH TO KEEP THE AIRCRAFT ON A STABILIZED APPROACH. THERE WAS MINIMAL WIND (LESS THAN 6 KTS). ON TOUCH DOWN HE LANDED FLAT OR POSSIBLY NOSE WHEEL FIRST. THIS RESULTED IN PORPOISING THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT INITIATED A GO AROUND. ON THE SECOND ATTEMPT AT LANDING HE TOUCHED DOWN FLAT AGAIN BUT MUCH FIRMER AND THE NOSE GEAR DETACHED FROM THE AIRCRAFT. THE PROP STRUCK THE RUNWAY AND THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A STOP FROM THIS LANDING.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
