## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT DEPARTED BURNS AIRPORT (BNO) WITH THE INTENDED DESTINATION, ALVORD DRY LAKE, OREGON.

PILOT STATED THE FOLLOWING: HE HAD MADE ARRANGEMENTS WITH A FRIEND TO ILLUMINATE THE LANDING AREA AT THE DRY LAKE WITH HIS TRUCK LIGHTS.

PILOT ACQUIRED WHAT HE THOUGHT WAS HIS FRIENDS TRUCK LIGHTS ON THE DRY LAKE.

THE PILOT INITIATED AN APPROACH TOWARD THE LIGHTS. JUST PRIOR TO TOUCHDOWN PILOT REALIZED THE LIGHTS HE SAW WERE FROM A CATTLE TRUCK ON HIGHWAY 205 WHICH IS TO THE WEST OF ALVORD DRY LAKE. THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN BETWEEN THE LAKE AND HIGHWAY 205 AND IMPACTED A FENCE DURING THE ROLL OUT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA518](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA518), Sep 28, 2016: Beech C24 (N4690M), Andrews, OR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s decision to land off airport at night and his lack of positional awareness, which resulted in his landing at the wrong location and impacting a fence.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
