## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE FLIGHT WAS PLANNED AS A PART 91 FLIGHT. THE PILOT IN COMMAND (PIC) ATTEMPTED TO LAND ON RUNWAY 09 AT CULP FARMS AIRPORT (4IN8), A TURF RUNWAY, AT APPROXIMATELY 1854 LOCAL TIME. THE CLOSEST REPORTED WEATHER

AT RENSSELAER, IN (KRZL) WAS SKY CLEAR, WINDS 020 DEGREES AT 6 KNOTS. SUNSET FOR THAT DAY WAS 1833 LOCAL TIME.

AS THE PIC BEGAN AN APPROACH TO LANDING, THE AIRCRAFT LINED UP ON THE RUNWAY LEFT OF CENTERLINE. AS THE AIRCRAFT NEARED THE RUNWAY, THE LEFT WING STRUCK THE CORN IN THE ADJACENT FIELD. AS THE LANDING CONTINUED,

THE AIRCRAFT WING CONTINUED TO STRIKE THE CORN FOR APPROXIMATELY ANOTHER 160 FEET UNTIL THE AIRCRAFT VEERED INTO THE FIELD AND CAME TO A STOP INVERTED APPROXIMATELY 30 FEET NORTH OF THE RUNWAY EDGE. THE PIC SUFFERED A BROKEN NOSE AND THERE WAS NO POST CRASH FIRE.

THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE EDGE OF THE CORNFIELD AND STATE ROAD 16 IS APPROXIMATELY 90 FEET. THE WING SPAN ON N2508Q IS 36 FEET. THE PIC FIRST IMPACTED THE CORN STALKS APPROXIMATELY 9.5 FEET INTO THE FIELD. THIS WOULD INDICATE THE AIRCRAFT LANDED APPROXIMATELY 25 FEET FROM THE CENTERLINE OF THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN16CA390](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN16CA390), Sep 30, 2016: Cessna 182 (N2508Q), Rensselaer, IN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper touchdown point during landing, which resulted in the left wing's subsequent impact with a cornfield.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
