## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON OCTOBER 4, 2016 ON OR ABOUT 1330, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^; HE STATED THAT HE JUST HAD AN AIRCRAFT ACCIDENT IN N400KX ON RUNWAY 10 AT GALESBURG AIRPORT.

ACTUAL TIME OF THE ACCIDENT WAS (1028 AM) 1528Z. IT IS SHOWN IN THE SECURITY CAMERA VIDEO FROM JET AIR INC. LOCATED ON GALESBURG MUNICIPAL AIRPORT THE AIRCRAFT FIRST TOUCHED DOWN AT 1028 AM OCT 4, 2016 AND THE WRECKAGE WAS REMOVED BY 1100 AM.

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT HE WAS NOT SURE WHETHER OR NOT HE SHOULD REPORT THE ACCIDENT, AND CALLED AOPA FOR ADVICE. AOPA SAID IT IS QUESTIONABLE. SO, HE THEN CALLED OUR OFFICE.

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT HE WAS ON LANDING ON RUNWAY 10 WITH FLAP AT 30 DEGREE/FULL FLAP. HE BELIEVES THAT; JUST AS HE WAS ABOUT TO TOUCHED DOWN A GUST OF WIND COMING FROM 120 GUSTING AT 15 KNOTS LIFTED THE AIRCRAFT BACK UP. AS HE TRIED TO MAKE A CORRECTION, THE WIND WAS THEN GONE DRIVING THE NOSE GEAR INTO THE RUNWAY CREATING A BOUNCE AS HE CONTINUED DOWN RUNWAY 10 BOUNCING 2-3 MORE TIMES STRIKING THE GROUND WITH THE PROPELLER BLADES. WITH THE FINAL BOUNCE RIPPING OFF THE NOSE LANDING GEAR/SLIDING ON THE PROPELLER TO A HALT.

ACCORDING THE ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^; THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING PRIOR TO PROPELLER BLADE IMPACT WITH THE RUNWAY, REMOVING THE ENGINE FROM THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT. IT WASN?T UNTIL THEN, THE ENGINE THEN SHUTOFF.

IT APPEARS THE TYPE OF DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT, TO BE NOSE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED AND DAMAGING ALL THREE PROP BLADES, THE LOWER COWL, LOWER FUSELAGE JUST UNDER THE CREW COMPARTMENT AND FIREWALL AND WITH THE LANDING GEAR TORN WAY THE FUSELAGE SUSTAINED A TEAR APPROXIMATELY 2 FEET PAST THE FIREWALL. ALL THREE PROP BLADES WITH HEAVY DAMAGE AND THE NOSE SPINNER LOOSE COULD BE CRACK DUE TO THE LEAKAGE OF THE RED DYING FROM THE SPINNER CASE.

NO INJURY AS THE PILOT WAS THE ONLY ONE ON BOARD AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA007](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA007), Oct 4, 2016: Cessna T182 (N400KX), Galesburg, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper landing flare, which resulted in a bounced, hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
