## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON OCTOBER 6, 2016, THE PILOT OF N8560P WAS FLYING IN THE LOCAL AREA OF SCOTTSBORO, ALABAMA. DURING THE FLIGHT THE FUEL FLOW TO THE ENGINE DECREASED AND THE ENGINE STARTED LOSING POWER. THE PILOT COMPLETED THE EMERGENCY PROCEDURES AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE ENGINE WITH NO RESULTS. THE PILOT THEN SPOTTED A FIELD AND COMMITTED FOR AN EMERGENCY LANDING. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE WHEN THE NOSE LANDING GEAR BROKE OFF DUE TO THE UNIMPROVED SURFACE OF THE FIELD. THERE WERE NO INJURIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS OCCURRENCE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA17LA006](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA17LA006), Oct 6, 2016: Piper PA24 (N8560P), Hollywood, AL, substantial damage. Probable cause: A failure of the fuel tank selector valve in a partially closed position, which resulted in fuel starvation to the engine and a total loss of engine power.

## Other reports on N8560P (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19890707049809I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19890707049809I), Jul 7, 1989: Piper PA24260 (N8560P), Huntsville, AL, Minor damage. Put gear lever in down position. Did not check for safe indication. Landed gear up. Cause under investigation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
