## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

OWNER OF THE AIRCRAFT WAS LANDING HIS RV6 ON HIS PRIVATE GRASS STRIP, NEWKIRK FIELD. MARKINGS ON THE RUNWAY SHOW THAT THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED AND ON THE SECOND OR THIRD BOUNCE THE NOSE GEAR DUG INTO THE SANDY SOIL AND FAILED CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO FLIP OVER. THE RV6 AIRCRAFT DID NOT HAVE THE NOSE GEAR MODE INSTALLED WHICH ADDS ADDITIONAL SUPPORT TO THE NOSE GEAR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA028](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA028), Oct 12, 2016: Newkirk Thomas Ray Vans RV 6 (N164N), Garland, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper landing flare, which resulted in a bounced landing on the grass runway.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
