## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE FLYING (N5301H)

ON SOLO CROSS-COUNTRY FLIGHT FROM LGB (LONG BEACH) TO F70 (FRENCH VALLEY), AT 5,500 MSL. WHILE OVER LAKE MATTHEWS, THE ENGINE RPM FLUCTUATED FROM 2,400 TO 1,000 RPM. IT WAS SUSPECTED CARBURETOR ICE SO CARBURETOR HEAT WAS APPLIED. THE PROBLEM DID NOT IMPROVE IMMEDIATELY, SO THE PIC DECIDED TO DIVERT TO THE NEAREST AIRPORT, RAL (RIVERSIDE). THE PIC DECLARED AN EMERGENCY, AND REQUESTED A DIVERSION TO RAL. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
