## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON OCTOBER 16, 2016, ABOUT 1430 EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME, A CESSNA 150F AIRPLANE, N7948F, IMPACTED A FIELD AFTER TAKEOFF FROM BERRY HILL AIRPORT (7GA7), STOCKBRIDGE, GEORGIA. THE PRIVATE PILOT AND PASSENGER SUSTAINED SERIOUS INJURIES. THE AIRPLANE WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED. THE PERSONAL FLIGHT WAS CONDUCTED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF 14 CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS PART 91. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AND NO FLIGHT PLAN HAD BEEN FILED FOR THE LOCAL FLIGHT.

ON OCTOBER 16, 2016 AN INSPECTOR FROM THE ATLANTA FSDO WAS DISPATCHED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF ACCIDENT. ON ARRIVAL THE INSPECTOR WAS MET BY MEMBERS OF THE HENRY COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT WHO HAD SECURED THE ACCIDENT SITE. AN INITIAL ASSESSMENT SHOWED THAT AFTER TAKEOFF FROM RUNWAY 11, THE AIRPLANE CLEARED A LINE OF TREES 75 TO 100 FEET TALL, APPROXIMATELY 500 FEET FROM THE DEPARTURE END OF THE RUNWAY, THEN WENT INTO A STEEP NOSE DOWN DESCENT AND STRUCK THE GROUND AT A NEARLY VERTICAL ATTITUDE LESS THAN 800 FEET FROM THE RUNWAY.

ON OCTOBER 26, 2016 AN INSPECTION TEAM WAS ASSEMBLED AT THE REQUEST OF THE NTSB TO CONDUCT AN ACCIDENT TEARDOWN AND INSPECTION. THE TEAM MET AT THE ATLANTA AIR SALVAGE FACILITY AND WAS COMPOSED OF MEMBERS FROM THE FAA, CONTINENTAL MOTORS AND CESSNA. THE AIRCRAFT RECORDS SHOWED THAT THE LAST ANNUAL WAS PERFORMED ON 05/10/2016 SHOWING THE TOTAL AIRFRAME TIME ON AIRCRAFT WAS 2801.74, WITH ENGINE TIME SINCE OVERHAUL JUST OVER 640.0 HOURS. THE RESULTS OF THE INSPECTION DID NOT REVEAL ANY CONCLUSIVE EVIDENCE OF CONCERN WITH THE AIRFRAME OR ENGINE COMPONENTS. THE AIRCRAFT OWNER STATED THAT HE HAD FLOWN THE AIRCRAFT WITHIN THE PAST WEEK AND THERE WERE NO ISSUES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA17LA015](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA17LA015), Oct 16, 2016: Cessna 150 (N7948F), Stockbridge, GA, substantial damage. Probable cause: A partial loss of engine power due to a stuck exhaust valve and the pilot's exceedance of the airplane’s critical angle of attack, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
