## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT N8681, AN EXPERIMENTAL AMATEUR-BUILT ZENITH CH-750, DEPARTED A PRIVATE AIRSTRIP ON THE PILOT?S FARM. THE AIRCRAFT ACHIEVED AN APPROXIMATE HEIGHT OF 100 FEET WHEN THE ENGINE LOST POWER. THE PILOT MOMENTARY RESTARTED THE ENGINE AFTER CHANGING TO THE OPPOSITE FUEL TANK AND TURNING ON THE AUXILIARY FUEL PUMP. THE ENGINE FAILED TO STAY RUNNING. THE PILOT FLEW THE AIRCRAFT TO A FIELD AND IMPACTED THE GROUND APPROXIMATELY 1,000 FEET FROM THE TAKEOFF POINT. THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN IN A THREE POINT ATTITUDE AND CAME TO AN IMMEDIATE STOP RESULTING IN SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. WITNESSES HELPED THE PILOT FROM THE AIRCRAFT AND HE WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL WITH SERIOUS INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN17LA021](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN17LA021), Oct 20, 2016: Zenith CH-750 (N8681), Morristown, MN, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power due to fuel vapor lock. Contributing to the loss of engine power were the corrosion of the spark plugs and the spacing of the electrode gaps.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
