## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING THE LANDING ROLL OUT, AS THE GLIDER WAS ALMOST STOPPED, THE LEFT WING STRUCK A PHOTOGRAPHER WHO HAD UNKNOWINGLY MOVED ONTO THE RUNWAY INTO IT'S PATH. THE PHOTOGRAPHER WAS FILMING THE LANDING USING A LENS THAT EXAGGERATES DISTANCE AND UNKNOWINGLY POSITIONED HIMSELF ONTO THE RUNWAY. AS A RESULT OF BEING STRUCK THE PHOTOGRAPHER RECEIVED SERIOUS INJURIES. THE PILOT WAS UNAWARE ANYONE HAD STEPPED ONTO THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA063](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA063), Nov 5, 2016: Schempp-Hirth Flugzeugbau DUO Discus (N484KS), Port Matilda, PA, no damage. Probable cause: The bystander's decision to walk onto the runway, which resulted in him being struck by the glider's left wing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
