## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

FSDO GL-31 RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF THIS INCIDENT VIA EON. THE AIRCRAFT WAS INBOUND TO O'HARE (ORD) FROM MADISON (MSN) WHEN THE CREW DECLARED AN EMERGENCY DUE TO A MALFUNCTIONING #1 HYDRAULIC SYSTEM. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED ON RUNWAY 28R WITH NO STEERING AND LEAKING HYDRAULIC FLUID. THE RUNWAY WAS BRIEFLY CLOSED WHILE THE AIRCRAFT WAS TOWED TO GATE G18 AND SO THE HYDRAULIC FLUID ON THE RUNWAY COULD BE CLEANED UP. THE MECHANIC WAS INTERVIEWED AT THE AIRCRAFT. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT HE DISCOVERED THE HYDRAULIC FLUID LEVEL WAS LOW SO HE SERVICED THE HYDRAULICS. AFTER SERVICING, THE MECHANIC STARTED THE #1 ENGINE AND ANOTHER MECHANIC NOTICED A LARGE AMOUNT OF FLUID LEAKING FROM THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE WAS SHUT DOWN AND THE MECHANICS INVESTIGATED THE LEAK FROM THE ENGINE. THEY DISCOVERED THAT A METAL CLAMP HAD CUT INTO THE PRESSURE LINE GOING TO THE #1 ENGINE HYDRAULIC PUMP. THE PROTECTIVE COATING ON THE METAL CLAMP HAD LOOSENED, ALLOWING THE METAL OF THE CLAMP TO CUT INTO THE LINE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
