## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

UPON INITIAL APPROACH OF THE AIRCRAFT, A POSITION OF UPSIDE DOWN WAS VERIFIED. EVIDENCE OF THE NOSE WHEEL DIGGING INTO THE GROUND WAS CONFIRMED BY A RUT LEADING TO THE AIRCRAFT CENTERLINE. IT APPEARED THAT THE AIRCRAFT HAD BLED OFF ENOUGH SPEED TO SOFTEN THE IMPACT AND THE AIRCRAFT SLOWLY ROLLED OVER THE ENGINE AND ONTO ITS TOP. DAMAGE WAS CONSIDERED SUBSTANTIAL. THE NOSE LANDING GEAR (NLG) WAS DAMAGED AND BENT BACK UNDER THE BELLY OF THE AIRPLANE BEFORE THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPED. THIS ALSO DAMAGED THE NLG ATTACHMENT STRUCTURE WHICH IS ALSO PART OF THE ENGINE MOUNT. THE LOWER ENGINE COWLING WAS DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR. THE LEFT OUTER WING AND WING TIP WAS DAMAGED UPON AIRCRAFT FLIPPING. ALL ANTENNAS ON TOP OF THE AIRCRAFT WERE DAMAGED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA17LA045](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA17LA045), Nov 10, 2016: Cessna 150 (N23473), Snow Hill, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The total loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined because postaccident examination of the airplane did not reveal any evidence of preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
