## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2016 AT APPROXIMATELY 0835 HRS N606MF, A CIRRUS SR22 WAS PERFORMING AN IFR FLIGHT AT 5000 FEET FROM TO LRO, MOUNT PLEASANT REGIONAL AIRPORT, CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA ON ITS WAY TO RDU RALEIGH-DURHAM AIRPORT. THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE BEGAN RUNNING ROUGH AND SMOKING UNTIL IT FAILED. THE PILOT PERFORMED AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN A NW DIRECTION ON HIGHWAY 378 ABOUT ¼ MILE SE OF THE INTERSECTION OF HIGHWAY 378 AND 908 IN THE TOWN OF GRESHAM, SC. THE WINDSCREEN AND FRONT OF THE AIRPLANE WAS COVERED WITH OIL SPRAY AND ONCE THE PLANE CAME TO A STOP THE ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED BEFORE IT COULD SPREAD BEYOND THE ENGINE COWLING. THE ENGINE COWLING HAD OIL AND BURN MARKS AND THE PITOT TUBE WAS BROKEN OFF THE WING. THERE WERE THREE POB WITH NO INJURIES.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
