## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON NOVEMBER 17, 2016, THE PILOT OF N9358L WAS CONDUCTING A LOCAL TRAINING FLIGHT WITH A STUDENT. DURING A TOUCH AND GO LANDING THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. THE INSTRUCTOR TOOK CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND PUSHED THE THROTTLE IN TO CORRECT THE DIRECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT. WHILE CORRECTING THE DIRECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT THE HORIZONTAL STABILIZER CONTACTED A RUNWAY MARKER LIGHT CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE LEADING EDGE. THE PILOT THEN SAFELY LANDED THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA081](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA081), Nov 17, 2016: Cessna 172 (N9358L), Destin, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot’s overcorrection with right rudder, which resulted in a loss of directional control, and the flight instructor’s delayed remedial action.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
