## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT STATED THAT HIS LAST MEMORY WAS THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS ALIGNED FROM THE NORTH WITH THE RUNWAY AT 800 FEET AGL ON SHORT.

A WITNESS HEARD A LOUD IMPACT NOISE AND THEN TURNED TO SEE THE AIRCRAFT FALL AT A VERY SLOW AIRSPEED, NOSE DOWN FROM APPROXIMATELY 30 FEET ALTITUDE THEN IMPACT THE GROUND AT THE RUNWAY THRESHHOLD. THE AIRCRAFT EXIBITED DAMAGE TO NOSE, LEFT AND RIGHT WING TIPS, EACH WITH DIRT RESIDUE AND A LARGE DENT ON THE RIGHT WING LEADING EDGE APPROXIMATELY MID SPAN.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA17CA087](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA17CA087), Jan 12, 2017: Cessna 170 (N1387D), Hayden, AL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain clearance from trees during the approach.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
