## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHEN LOOKING FOR MISSING HORSES IN RURAL NEVADA, THE PILOT STATED THE ENGINE SURGED SEVERAL TIMES. THE PILOT DECIDED TO PERFORM A PRECAUTIONARY LANDING ON A REMOTE PRIVATE SNOW COVERED DIRT RUNWAY ON THE CORTA RANCH, 60 MILES SOUTH OF ELKO, NEVADA. UPON TOUCH DOWN, THE AIRCRAFT SLID ABOUT 100 FEET AND THEN NOSED OVER IN THE DEEP SNOW. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST INVERTED AND THE SOLE OCCUPANT EXITED THE AIRCRAFT WITHOUT INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR17LA062](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR17LA062), Jan 28, 2017: Aviat A-1C-200 (N382US), Jiggs, NV, substantial damage. Probable cause: An engine anomaly for reasons that could not be determined, which resulted in a precautionary landing in deep snow and a subsequent noseover.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
