## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT DEPARTED SHREVEPORT DOWNTOWN AIRPORT (DTN), THEN PROCEEDED SOUTH-SOUTHWEST. UPON REACHING SHREVEPORT REGIONAL (SHV)CLASS D AIRSPACE, PILOT TURNED SOUTH TOWARD WALLACE LAKE AREA. ATC INDICATED AIRCRAFT WAS FLYING AT APPROXIMATELY 800 FEET AND THEN APPEARED TO REVERSE COURSE, LOST SIGNIFICANT ALTITUDE AND EVENTUALLY RADAR CONTACT WAS LOST. PER THE LOCAL METAR AT SHV, THE CEILINGS WERE VARIABLE BETWEEN 500 AND 900 FEET, WITH 4 MILES VISIBILITY, LIGHT DRIZZLE AND FOG. THE CRASH AREA IS VERY REMOTE AND DID NOT OFFER ANY LIGHT SOURCES TO AID IN A HORIZON FOR THE PILOT.

INFORMATION IS CURRENT AS OF COMPLETION OF THIS REPORT ON 2/24/2017. SHOULD ANY INFORMATION RELEVANT TO THE ACCIDENT NEED TO BE ADDED, AN AMENDMENT WILL BE MADE TO THE REPORT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN17FA103](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN17FA103), Feb 15, 2017: Bell Helicopter Textron Canada 429 (N598PB), Shreveport, LA, substantial damage, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's inadvertent encounter with instrument meteorological conditions resulting in spatial disorientation, loss of control, and subsequent impact with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
