## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

IMMEDIATELY AFTER LANDING ON RUNWAY 24 AT THE BURLINGTON-ALAMANCE REGIONAL AIRPORT THE PILOT OF A CESSNA 172 EXPERIENCED A GUST OF WIND. THE GUST CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO VEER LEFT OF THE RUNWAY. THE PIC IMMEDIATELY INITIATED A GO AROUND, APPLYING FULL POWER TO THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED TO VEER LEFT AND DROPPED BACK TO THE RUNWAY SURFACE. THE AIRCRAFT CROSSED OVER THE RUNWAY LIGHT AND CONTINUED TO SKID SIDEWAYS DOWN AN EMBANKMENT BEFORE COMING TO REST. PIC SECURED THE ELECTRICAL AND FUEL SYSTEMS AND EXITED THE AIRCRAFT UNINJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA140](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA140), Feb 16, 2017: Cessna 172 (N381MG), Burlington, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain the runway heading during an attempted go-around in gusting crosswind conditions, which resulted in a runway excursion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
