## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON FEBRUARY 24, 2017, AT 2050 EST, A CESSNA 337G, N685V, REGISTERED TO ALPHA GOLF FLYERS INC., WHILE DOING NIGHT PATTERN WORK, IN VISUAL METEROROLOGICAL CONDITIONS, MADE A HARD LANDING WHICH RESULTED IN THE NOSE GEAR BEING SHEARED OFF. THE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED.

THE PILOT STATED, AFTER DEPARTING RUNWAY 27 AT KLDJ, THE AIRCRAFT REMAINED IN THE PATTERN. ON THE FIRST APPROACH, THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT LINED UP PROPERLY, AND HE WENT AROUND FROM A HEIGHT OF 400'. ON THE SECOND APPROACH, NO MORE THAN 300' HIGH, ON FINAL, A FLOCK OF BIRDS IN FRONT OF THE AIRCRAFT CAUSED HIM TO PUSH THE YOKE FORWARD, AND WITHIN SECONDS THE AIRCRAFT MADE CONTACT WITH THE PAVEMENT. AFTER THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED ON THE MAIN GEAR, IT CAME DOWN HARD A SECOND TIME, SHEARING THE NOSE GEAR OFF THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA162](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA162), Feb 24, 2017: Cessna T337 (N685V), Linden, NJ, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s abrupt maneuver to avoid birds during short final approach, which resulted in a hard, bounced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
