## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON MARCH 3, 2017 AT APPROXIMATELY 8:10 LOCAL TIME N2892Y A CESSNA 182 IMPACTED A HIGH GAME FENCE WHILE PERFORMING TOUCH AND GO LANDINGS AT ALPINE CASPARIS MUNICIPAL AIRPORT. THE ACCIDENT AIRCRAFT WAS ON FINAL AND ABOUT TO TOUCH DOWN WHEN A GUST OF WIND CAUGHT THE LEFT WING CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO WANT TO GO TO THE RIGHT. THE PILOT CORRECTED BY TURNING THE YOKE FULL LEFT. THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN WITH A BOUNCE AND BECAME AIRBORNE AGAIN. AT THIS POINT ANOTHER GUST OF WIND CAUGHT THE WING FORCING THE AIRCRAFT OFF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT PULLED BACK ON THE YOKE AND ADDED POWER, THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED IN THE DIRT AND THEN BEGAN TO CLIMB. THE PILOT THOUGHT HE WAS CLEAR BUT SHORTLY AFTER LIFTOFF THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR CAUGHT THE PARAMETER FENCE AND FLIPPED THE AIRCRAFT OVER. BOTH THE PILOT AND PASSENGER EXITED THE AIRCRAFT WITH MINOR INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA172](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA172), Mar 3, 2017: Cessna 182 (N2892Y), Alpine, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s inadequate compensation for gusting crosswind conditions at night and his delayed go-around, which resulted in the airplane bouncing and impacting a fence.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
