## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PIC TOOK OFF FROM A SMALL CLEARING BETWEEN THE BUSHES ON THE DESERT FLOOR. AFTER ROTATION, WHILE STILL IN GROUND EFFECT THE AIRCRAFT FAILED TO CLEAR BUSHES. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE GROUND AND CAME TO REST IN A DEPRESSION. DUE TO SIDE LOADING OF THE LANDING GEAR, THE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED. AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. NO INJURIES TO PILOT OR PASSENGER.

PIC WAS COOPERATIVE WITH BOTH THE NTSB AND FAA INVESTIGATORS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA227](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA227), Mar 18, 2017: Cubcrafters CC11-160 (N153JM), Borrego Springs, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s selection of an unsuitable takeoff area, which resulted in impact with obstacles.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
