## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT STATED THAT DURING CLIMB, IMMEDIATELY AFTER TAKEOFF FROM RWY 9L, THE AIRCRAFT'S RIGHT ENGINE BEGAN TO SURGE AND MAKE BACKFIRE NOISE CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO YAW TO THE RIGHT. AT APPROXIMATELY 50 TO 100 FEET, PILOT NOTED RUNWAY REMAINING AND A LARGE FIELD AHEAD. THE PILOT DID NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH THE ENGINE POWER SITUATION AND DECIDED TO RETARD THE THROTTLES AND MAKE A PRECAUTIONARY LANDING. THE AIRCRAFT ROLL OUT OCCURED IN THE GRASS FIELD BEYOND THE END OF RWY 9L.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
