## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PRIVATE PILOT, SOLE OCCUPANT, WAS FATALLY INJURED. THE AIRCRAFT WAS REGISTERED TO A PRIVATE COMPANY AND OPERATED BY THE PILOT. AN INSTRUMENT FLIGHT RULES FLIGHT PLAN WAS FILED FOR THE FLIGHT THAT DEPARTED CINCINNATI AIRPORT ? LUNKEN FIELD CINCINNATI, OHIO AT ABOUT 1810 AND WAS DESTINED FOR FULTON COUNTY AIRPORT-BROWN FIELD, ATLANTA, GEORGIA.

THE LOCAL ATLANTA AREA WEATHER WAS REPORTED AS CLEAR, WINDS CALM.

PILOT CALLED IN THE LOSS OF AUTO PILOT CONTROL AND TRIM OF AIRCRAFT WAS EVIDENT. ATC ASKED IF EMERGENCY WAS WANTED, PILOT DID NOT REPLY. ATC GAVE EMERGENCY CLEARANCE TO FTY. A CERTIFIED PILOT/WITNESSES STATED AIRCRAFT WENT INTO A BARREL ROLL, CORRECTED WITH A SLIGHT LEFT TURN, THEN WENT HARD OVER LEFT ?KNIFE EDGE?, THEN PROCEEDED TO STALL AND FALL TO GROUND.

THE AIRCRAFT WAS ESTIMATED TO BE TRAVELING IN A NORTH WESTERLY DIRECTION AND HAD IMPACTED THE GROUND IN A NOSE LEVEL/WINGS LEVEL ATTITUDE WITH LITTLE OR NO FORWARD MOMENTUM. AN INDENTATION IN GROUND OF APPROXIMATELY SAME SIZE AND SHAPE AS LEFT WING WAS NOTED IN FRONT YARD OF THE HOUSE. THE ELECTRICAL WIRES AND TREES CLOSE TO THE HOUSE AND DRIVEWAY DID NOT APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN STRUCK BY THE AIRPLANE. BASED ON INITIAL IMPACT INDENTATION OF THE LEFT WING, THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED AFT APPROXIMATELY 3 FEET.

THE NTSB AND TEXTRON AIRCRAFT REPRESENTATIVE ARRIVED ON MARCH 25TH, THE ASI WORKED CLOSELY WITH THEM.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA17FA135](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA17FA135), Mar 24, 2017: Cessna 500 (N8DX), Marietta, GA, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain adequate airspeed while manually flying the airplane, which resulted in the airplane exceeding its critical angle of attack and experiencing an aerodynamic stall.…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
