## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS FLYING HIS AIRCRAFT N2838Z FROM SOLDOTNA AIRPORT (SXQ ) TO A PRIVATE AIRSTRIP, GAEDE (7AK3) LAT/LONG: 60-28-34.9390N/ 151-09-58.0090W , 4 NAUTICAL MILES WEST OF DEPARTING AIRPORT(SXQ). THE PILOT STATED HE DID A FLY BY AND NOTED ORIENTATION OF AIRFIELD WIND SOCK, WHICH INDICATED A CROSS WIND, THEN LINED UP FOR AN APPROACH ACCORDINGLY. HE THEN STATED HE CAME IN TOO FAST AND TOO HIGH. THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED ONCE ON TOUCH DOWN AND STRUCK A SNOW PILE AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA210](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA210), Mar 27, 2017: Piper PA22 (N2838Z), Soldotna, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s unstabilized approach and failure to attain the proper touchdown point, which resulted in a runway overrun and collision with a snowbank.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
