## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

A PIPER J3 CUB WAS LANDING ON RUNWAY 010 AT NEW CARLISLE (3OH0), WHILE A CESSNA 172 WAS LANDING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION ON RUNWAY 28. NEITHER PILOT SAW THE OTHER AIRCRAFT WHICH RESULTED IN A COLLISION. THE WINGS OF THE AIRCRAFT COLLIDED CAUSING EACH AIRCRAFT TO SPIN OVER 180 DEGREES ON THE RUNWAY. BOTH AIRCRAFT HAD SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA223](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA223), Apr 8, 2017: Piper J3C (N88470), New Carlisle, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The other pilot’s decision to land on an occupied runway and his failure to see and avoid the airplane.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
