## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT DEPARTED KDZB HORSE SHOE BAY, TEXAS ENROUTE TO KSJT SAN ANGELO, TEXAS. TEN MINUTES INTO THE FLIGHT THE PILOT DECLARED AN EMERGENCY, PILOT STATED HE WAS OUT OF FUEL AND NEEDED TO GO TO (AQO) LLANO, TEXAS. HOUSTON CONTROLLER (ZHU) GIVES WEATHER AND RE-CLEARS AIRCRAFT TO AQO. PILOT ADVISES HE NEEDED A HIGHWAY TO LAND ON BECAUSE HE WAS NOT GOING TO MAKE IT TO LLANO. PILOT LANDED ON HIGHWAY 71 IN LLANO TEXAS, ABOUT 5 MILES FROM THE AIRPORT. AIRCRAFT LANDED WITH GEAR UP. AIRPLANE HAD SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO LEFT WING, LEFT PROPELLER AND BOTTOM OF AIRCRAFT. NO POST CRASH FIRE AND NO INJURY TO PILOT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA233](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA233), Apr 12, 2017: Piper PA 34 (N461RL), Llano, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s complacency during the en route phase of flight, which resulted in fuel mismanagement and a subsequent gear-up landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
