## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

LUFTHANSA 747-400 WAS GUIDED IN BY THREE WORLDWIDE FLIGHT SERIVCES MARSHALLERS. THERE WAS A WING WALKER ON BOTH WING TIPS AND ONE AT THE NOSE WHILE PARKING AT GATE S-15. ADDITINOALLY THERE WERE THREE GATE GOURMET VEHICLES PARKED INSIDE THE NORTH SIDE OF THE SAFETY ENVELOPE FOR S-15. THE THREE GATE GOURMET VEHICLES WERE PARKED SIDE BY SIDE FRONT FACING NORTH AND COULD NOT OBJECTIVELY SEE THE CLOSE PROXIMITY OF THE APPROACHING 747.

WHEN THE LUFTHANSA FLIGHT 490 WAS GUIDED INTO THE RAMP AT S-15 THE NUMBER ONE ENGINE STRUCK THE GATE GOURMET VEHICLE STAGED AT THE EAST END OF THE THREE VEHICLES PARKED IN THE SAFETY ENVELOPE.

THE IMPACT CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE LUFTHANSA 747 NUMBER ONE ENGINE ON THE LEFT MIDSECTION OF THE COWLING AND INSIDE THE ENGINE WITH VARIOUS FAN DAMAGE AND COWLING DAMAGE. THE DAMAGE FROM THE COWLING APPEARED TO BE FROM THE IMPACT AND THE HOUSING AND FAN DAMAGE APPEARED TO BE FROM THE RIGHT REAR SPOT LIGHT FROM THE GATE GOURMET VEHICLE.

NO INJURIES REPORTED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
