## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRMAN FLEW ON A CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT FROM DEMMING, NM (DMN) TO CORONA, CA (AJO). WHILE FLIGHT FOLLOWING THROUGH THE BANNING PASS THE PILOT REPORTED A LOSS OF POWER AND ATC SUGGESTED BANNING AIRPORT. PILOT MADE A RIGHT HAND PATTERN AND MISJUDGED THE EFFECT OF THE WIND (280 DEGREES AT 20+ KTS) AND TOUCHED DOWN ABOUT 150 FEET SHORT OF THE PAVEMENT. AFTER ROLLING THROUGH DIRT, BRUSH AND THEN A BARBED-WIRE FENCE (CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE), THE NOSEWHEEL WAS SHEARED OFF BY THE RUNWAY INCLINE (RESULTING IN SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE). THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST ON IT'S NOSE ABOUT 35' SHORT OF THE PAVED PORTION OF THE RUNWAY.
