## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT STATED HE DEPARTED RUNWAY26R AT KSUS. AT 100 TO 200 FEET AGL THE CANOPY POPPED OPEN AND HE STARTED TO HAVE CONTROL ISSUES AS HE WAS TRYING TO CLOSE THE CANOPY. THE CANOPY WOULD NOT CLOSE AND THE PILOT ELECTED TO LAND ON RUNWAY 8R AT KSUS BECAUSE OF THE AIRCRAFT CONTROL ISSUES. THE PILOT STATED THE AIRCRAFT WAS SHAKING AND HE COULD NOT READ THE AIRSPEED INDICATOR AND HE TOUCHED DOWN FAST ON THE RUNWAY. ON REDUCING POWER THE AIRCRAFT LIFTED OFF THE RUNWAY AND THEN TOUCHED DOWN HARD. THE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED AND THE AIRCRAFT SLID OFF THE RUNWAY ONTO THE GRASS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA272](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA272), May 7, 2017: John Murphy JSX-2 (N458V), Chesterfield, MO, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to ensure that the canopy was properly secured before takeoff, which resulted in an unstable landing flare and hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
