## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT REPORTED HEADING EAST I BEGAN THE MANEUVER AROUND 105 KNOTS WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AT 2300 RPM AND LEANED FOR CRUISE. PITCHING UP AND BEGINNING THE LEFT TURN TOWARDS THE NORTH THE MANEUVER WAS NORMAL. IT WAS THEN IN THE NEXT SPAN OF 10-20 SECONDS THAT MADE THIS FLIGHT QUITE TERRIFYING AND EXCITING. THE ENGINE, WITHOUT ANY AUDIBLE OR PERFORMANCE WARNINGS BUCKED REPEATEDLY AND VIOLENTLY SHOOK THE AIRCRAFT. THERE WAS A SENSATION OF SHOCK THAT STUNNED ME A COUPLE SECONDS, BUT WITH FEAR ORIGINATING WITH THE IDEA OF A COMPLETE LOSS OF ENGINE FROM THE AIRCRAFT I CUT THE THROTTLE AND THE FUEL SHUTOFF WAS PULLED. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE FOR A FEW MORE ROTATIONS THEN SEIZED, NOT BEFORE BLASTING OIL OVER THE WINDSCREEN. IT WAS THEN THAT WHITE SMOKE FROM BURNING OIL BEGAN TO FILL THE CABIN. I IMMEDIATELY OPENED THE CABIN WINDOWS AND MADE MY FIRST COMMUNICATION ABOUT THE EVENT.

THE PILOT EVENTUALLY GLIDED TO LAND AT THE DLZ AIRPORT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
