## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

UPON LANDING, THE AIRCRAFT GROUND LOOPED. DURING TOUCHDOWN, THE AIRCRAFT TURNED TO THE LEFT; ALTHOUGH THE PILOT WAS USING FULL RIGHT RUDDER, THE PILOT COULD NOT KEEP THE AIRCRAFT ON THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT EXITED THE RUNWAY ONTO THE GRASS AND CONTINUED TURNING TO THE LEFT. AT THAT POINT, THE AIRCRAFT STOPPED ABRUPTLY AGAINST AN EMBANKMENT, CAUSING THE RIGHT GEAR TO FOLD UNDER THE AIRCRAFT. THIS ULTIMATELY CAUSED BOTH THE RIGHT WING AND PROPELLER TO STRIKE THE GROUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA281](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA281), May 15, 2017: Piper PA22 (N31JP), South Boston, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
