## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED VINTON COUNTY AIRPORT (221) AND DEVELOPED A LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. THE PILOT RETURNED TO THE AIRPORT AND ELECTED TO LAND WITH A TAIL WIND IN ORDER TO AVOID PROLONGING BEING IN THE AIR. THE PILOT APPROACHED THE AIRPORT HIGH AND FAST WHICH RESULTED IN LANDING BEYOND THE HALFWAY POINT OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT REALIZED HE WOULD OVERRUN THE RUNWAY, THEREFORE, IN ORDER TO AVOID A 200 FOOT DROP AT THE OF THE RUNWAY, HE ELECTED TO APPLY HARD RIGHT RUDDER AND PUT THE AIRCRAFT INTO A STAND OF TREES. THE LEFT WING STRUCK THE TREES AND THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED. THERE WAS THREE PASSENGER PLUS THE PILOT ALL UNINJURED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
